British Schools Championships 2011 – Results

British Schools Championships 2011On Saturday 26 March Marija Beliukeviciute, Joseph Lane, William Humphreys, Isaac Scothern and Arunas Beliukevicius represented their respective schools and colleges at the British Schools Championships which where held at IceSheffield.

William and Joe’s groups were on first, Joe was in the Year 10/11 u60kg category along with 10 other competitors and William was in the Year 10/11 u73kg along with 11 other competitors.

Joe representing Trinity Catholic School unfortunately received an injury during his first contest and had to withdraw from the competition.

William was representing The Kimberley School, he lost his first contest which put him into the repecharge, he then continued to storm through the next three contests winning the first two by Ippon throws in less than 25 seconds and then the bronze final by a hold down, securing William a Bronze medal.

Marija was our next competitor to fight, she was representing Rosslyn Park Primary School in the Year 6/7 u36kg category along with 12 other competitors. Marija won her first contest by Ippon throw, in the next round Marija was beaten by the eventual Gold medallist and was now in the repecharge.  Marija won her next two contests by Ippon to reach the Bronze final, in the final it was a close contest and Marija was the eventual winner by a Yuko score, securing Marija a Bronze medal.

Next up was Isaac and Arunas, Isaac was in the Year 12/13 u60kg category along with 7 other competitors and Arunas was in the Year 12/13 u73kg category along with 8 other competitors.

Isaac representing Bilborough College fought well but lost both of his first two contests which eliminated him from the event.

Arunas was our last competitor and he was representing Clarendon College.  Arunas lost his first contest which moved him into the repecharge; he then continued winning his next contest by a Yuko throw. In his third contest he was beaten by a strangle technique which eliminated him from the event.

This was an excellent event with some great judo throughout, it would be great to see more of our students entering this event and representing their schools next year.
