British Schools National Individual Championships 2010 – Results
On Saturday 20 March James Noble, William Humphreys and Arunas Beliukevicius represented their respective schools and colleges at the British Schools National Individual Championships.
William and James’s groups were on first, James was in the Year 10/11 u60kg category along with 15 other competitors and William was in the Year 10/11 u66kg along with 17 other competitors.
James representing Fernwood School won his first three fights by Ippon throws which put him into the final. In the final he had a tough contest that was evenly matched and eventually lost to a waza-ari score. This is James’s first competition since injuring his hip in August 2008 and a Silver medal is a great result on his return to competitive judo.
William was representing The Kimberley School and like James won his first 3 contests by Ippon, two throws and one strangle. This put William in the final, again it was a close match that lasted the full four minutes with William winning the Gold by a waza-ari scored throw.
Arunas was our last competitor and he was representing Clarendon College in a group of 10 players. Arunas won his first contest by Ippon throw but then lost his next two contests, the second of which was the Bronze final which meant he finished the event just outside of the medal placings in fifth place.
This was an excellent event with some great judo throughout, it would be great to see more of our students entering this event and representing their schools next year.
