Cobra Trio See Red

  • 8th July 2012

Nottm Closed 2012On Sunday 8 July Nottinghamshire Judo hosted the Nottingham Closed Championships at the Bilborough Sports Centre in Nottingham.

This year the format for the closed had changed slightly and there were two categories, one for Nov-3 Mon and one for 3 Mon – 6 Mon.

We had three entries into this event and they were all in the Nov – 3 Mon category. First up were Connor Tait and Reiss McClaren-Meller in the boys -28kg. Connor got off to a great start beating his first opponent by Ippon throw in only 5 seconds; surely this was to be the quickest contest of the day? Maybe not as Connor’s second contest lasted only 3 seconds where he threw his opponent again for Ippon! In his final contest Connor met Reiss and Reiss put up a great fight against Connor but was eventually thrown by Ippon.

In Reiss’s other two contests he lost his first fight but then pulled one back and threw his second opponent for Ippon in 10 seconds.

The two boys even though they are only red belts are showing great potential and the final results for this category were Connor – Gold and Reiss – Bronze.

Our remaining representative was Ellie Tait, Ellie was in a pool of three in the girls -28kg, Ellie was the lightest in the group but this did not affect her contests as she beat her first opponent by Ippon throw in 58 seconds and then her final contest went a little longer but Ellie secured the second win again by Ippon throw and gained the Gold medal for that category.

This was a great event and an ideal first competition for any of our players as it was grade banded and only clubs from the Nottinghamshire area were permitted to enter. Hopefully we will see more of our students enter this event next year.
