East Midlands Open 2013On Sunday 25 November Connor Tait, Brandon Allsebrook, Ethan Ward and Jack Hopewell represented our club at the East Midlands Pre-Cadet, Cadet and Senior Kyu Open that was held at the Ellis Guilford School in Nottingham.

Connor Tait was up first in the u34kg which was a pool of three; he fought well but did not win a contest against these older and more experienced players receiving a thirst place bronze medal for his efforts.

Brandon and Ethan were next in the u42kg this was a twin pool of seven and the boys would have to finish in the top two of their respective pools to proceed into the repechage. Brandon had three contests and like Connor before him fought well but did not manage to win a match. Ethan won his first contest by a Yuko score and then lost his second, finishing second in the pool and through to the repechage. He lost his next contest which was the semi-final of the repechage and gained a third place overall.

Last up was Jack in the u50kg there were 11 in this group and as with Brandon and Ethan’s group Jack would need to finish in the top two of his pool to go through to the repechage. Jack had four contests in his initial pool and he won each one with Ippon scores which put him first in his pool and would now face the runner-up of the other pool in the semi-final. The semi-final contest went the full length with Jack eventually losing out to a penalty and gaining a credible third place Bronze.

This was a great event which gave our players the opportunity to compete in their new 2014 pre-cadet age band and prepare for the main British Championships in December.
