Four Medals at Cobra JC Red Belt RumbleOn Sunday 26 April Bailey Robinson, Danius Teiserskas, Ellie Turner and Nicole Brealey represented our club at the Cobra JC Red Belt Rumble Competition that was held at the Ellis Guilford School.

Ellie was up first and was drawn in a pool of five (u34kg) and would need to win four contests to secure a Gold medal, this was Ellie’s first competitive event and she got off to a great start by holding her first opponent for Ippon. In her second contest she quickly dispatched her opponent by throwing her for a Waza-ari score then transitioned into a hold for Ippon. The next contest went the full three minute duration with Ellie emerging as the winner with two Yuko scores earlier in the contest. Ellie’s final contest saw her meet a strong opponent who eventually outmatched Ellie and won the contest. Ellie had won a total of three contests and secured a respectable 2nd Place – Silver medal.

Our next fighter to be called was Nicole, she like Ellie was also drawn in a pool of five (u43kg). Nicole was no stranger to competitions taking Gold’s at her previous two competitions. This event was to be no different with Nicole winning all four contests, the first with an Ippon hold, this was followed by an Ippon throw (6 secs) then another Ippon throw (4 secs) and then finishing with a Waza-ari throw and hold for Ippon. This secured Nicole her third 1st Place victory and Gold medal.

The boys were up next with Bailey drawn in a pool of four in the u38kg and Danius in a pool of five in the u47kg. This was the first competitive outing for both of the boys and even though they both fought really well they were unable to secure a win on the day and both finished in Bronze medal positions.

We are really proud of all of our competitors they showed great composure and sportsmanship throughout their categories and especially the three who stepped onto the competition area for the first time it takes great courage and we hope more of our students will follow in your footsteps.
