Four Medals at Local Rumble

  • 18th February 2013

Red Belt Rumble 2013On Sunday 17 February Nottinghamshire hosted its first Red Belt Rumble event of the year. Ellie Tait, Danae Spademan, Connor Tait and Rebecca McQuone were representing our club at this event.

Connor was up first in the u29kg category along with three other competitors in a pool of four. In his first contest he threw his opponent for waza-ari and then held him for Ippon, the second contest was a little tougher with Connor throwing for Ippon in the final minute. This now meant Connor had one more contest to win for Gold and he finished in style throwing his opponent for Ippon within the first minute.

Ellie was next in the -26kg category like Connor before her she would have three contests. Ellie did not start too well losing her first contest, however this did not deter her and she proceeded to win her next two contests by throws and holds within the first minute of each contest, therefore securing Ellie a Silver.

Next was Danae in the -39kg again along with three opponents, who were considerably taller than her. This was Danae’s first competition and she got off to a good start winning her first contest by a yuko with the contest lasting the full three minutes, her next contest was just as tough again going the full three minutes however she lost out this time to a waza-ari scored by her opponent. In her final contest Danae was thrown and held by her opponent which resulted in a Bronze for Danae.

Last up was Rebecca in the -66kg category; Rebecca had two opponents in this group. Like Danae this was Rebecca’s first competition and even though she did not manage to secure a win she fought well and was a credit to the club and also received a Bronze.

This was an ideal event for any player who has not yet competed or has only fought in a couple of competitions before and we hope that many more of our new students will enter any future Red Belt Rumbles that are held in Nottingham.
