  • 29th June 2011

On Saturday 25 June, Ethan Ward, Brandon Allsebrook, Jack Hopewell and Marija Beliukeviciute attended the Kent International Competition that was held at Crystal Palace, London.

This event attracted over 800 competitors from the UK and throughout Europe and is one of only five high standard events on the annual UK Judo calendar.

Ethan was is the Boys yellow belt u34kg category, Ethan lost his first contest but then battled on through the repecharge winning his next two by Ippon, but then just before he reached the bronze final he was beaten again therefore out of the event.

Brandon and Jack were both in the Boys yellow belt u38kg category, Brandon lost his first fight but then came back with a spectacular win in the second, and he then continued in the repecharge losing his third contest and was eliminated.

Jack received a bye in the first round and then won his next two contests taking him to the semi-final, however after fighting well he lost the contest and was then in the repecharge to fight for bronze. Luck was not on Jacks side and after fighting hard for the full 2 minutes Jack was beaten in the bronze final by a Yuko score earning Jack a 5th Place.

Marija was our last fighter of the day in the Girls orange/green belt u36kg category. Marija lost her first contest and then stepped up her game and won the next two putting her in the bronze final, unfortunately she underestimated her opponent and lost the contest gaining her a 5th Place.

We are really proud of these students who took the long journey to attend this event and then performed to the best of their ability on the day and hopefully will have gained a great deal of experience from this high calibre event.
