New Satellite Club at Ellis Guilford School
On Wednesday 22 January we launched an after school satellite club at the Ellis Guilford School in conjunction with funding from Sport Nottinghamshire.
The club was set up after Paul received a request from the school after they learned of Paul’s involvement in the sport as they were looking for more after school activities for students at the school.
Paul then liaised with the school to promote the new club, the launch was advertised throughout the school on their digital signage, school intranet and flyers were also created that were distributed to all KS3 students via their tutors.
Following two weeks of advertising the new session was launched and attracted 27 students, all of which were engaged throughout and participated fully in the lesson plan delivered by coaches Paul Keeton and Joe Wathan. A number of staff from the school visited the session throughout and commented on how well it was delivered and how the children seemed to be enjoying themselves.
The satellite club is partially funded by Sport Nottingham the proceeds of which will be used for coaching fees, loan judo suits and British Judo memberships. The school is also providing the facilities free of charge and therefore at the moment we are able to offer these classes free of charge to the participants.
The overall challenge for this satellite club has been set for the participants to be trained and ready to represent the school at the 2015 British Schools Championships, this is tough challenge for these students but achievable if they put in the effort and are fully committed. Students will also be offered the opportunity to train at our main club when the school is closed for holidays.
