Tait Duo Strike Again

Tait Duo Strike AgainOn Sunday 21 October Nottinghamshire hosted it’s second Red Belt Rumble event of the year. Siblings Connor and Ellie Tait were representing our club at this event.

Connor was called to the mat first and as with the majority of categories at this event he was in a pool of four and would have three contests. Earlier in the year Connor had attended the same event and was looking to match the Gold that he achieved there. Connor did not disappoint in his first contest he caught his opponent for a quick Ippon throw in only 0.09 seconds, he then continued to beat his second opponent with a throw and hold for Ippon. In his final match he continued as he started and dispatched his opponent in a lightening 0.07 seconds with another Ippon throw, this gained Connor 1st Place and a Gold medal.

Ellie was up next along with her three counterparts in the lightest girls category of the day. Ellie’s first contest was a tough battle going the full three minutes; however a Waza-ari score earlier in the contest was enough to secure the win. Ellie’s next two contests proved to be just as tough as the first with the second again going the full contest duration however it was her opponent that triumphed this time around, the final contest went into Golden Score and then was decided by flags the judges voted 2-1 in favour of Ellie’s opponent. This result put Ellie in 3rd Place overall and a Bronze medal.

This was an ideal event for any player who has not yet competed or has only fought in a couple of competitions before and we hope that many more of our new students will follow Connor and Ellie’s lead and enter one of the future Red Belt Rumbles that are held in Nottingham.
