Arunas secures final points and a Gold medal
On Sunday 15 April Arunas Beliukevicius travelled to Kidderminster with Paul to compete in the Samurai Senior Kyu Grades Open, his main focus was the final 20 points that he required to be gain the coveted Black Belt that many judoka strive to achieve.
There were a total of 11 competitors in Arunas’s group the Senior Men Brown Belt and Below u73kg, these were split into three pools two containing four players each and the other contained three players, the top two placed competitors from each group would go through to the knock-out round.
Arunas was in a pool of four and had three contests; he had to win at least two of these to secure a place in the next round.
Arunas was on great form securing his first win by Ippon in only 10 seconds, the second took a little longer but he bested his opponent again with an Ippon throw. In his final contest of the pool he again secured a win by Ippon throw in only 17 seconds. This now put Arunas through to the knock-out stage.
Arunas now had to win all the next three contests to secure the Gold medal, he moved on swiftly to the semi-final after dispatching his opponent by Ippon throw in 15 seconds, and then slightly slower moved into the final again throwing his opponent for Ippon in 17 seconds. Arunas was bulldozing his way through his opponents and the final was no different where he bested his opponent with an Ippon throw in 23 seconds.
This was a great day for Arunas and fantastic to watch, even better for Arunas was that he had secured 30 points on the day which was now enough for the coveted Black Belt, he now only has to complete the theory and the 1st Dan will be his!
